The Broadway District of Green Bay is a community, our neighborhood, a great commercial district, and a cool and “happening” place – especially on Wednesday nights at the Farmers Market put on by On Broadway, Inc. Neville staff and volunteers have been down at the Farmer’s Market every Wednesday this summer. We hope you have stopped by our booth near Beerntsen’s to visit with us, or participate in a community art project, or be a time traveler in pictures.
Brent Crabb is an amazing professional artist who does very detailed pencil drawings. Brent and his wife Peggy have been proud residents of the Broadway District since 1988. Last winter, Brent did a drawing which featured different landmarks in the Broadway District. When we asked him if we could use his drawing as a basis for a community art project, he enthusiastically agreed.
A volunteer, Cindy Machut, blew up the drawing to a large size and gridded it off. About 800 people designed a square and signed their name. Thus, we completed the first Broadway community art project.
It was so much fun we did it again! But this time we did not grid it off (except for the sky). Another 700 people, including the kids who came to the Museum for Kids’ Day, participated.
When we opened the MuseumPLACE exhibit, Brent was on hand as we unveiled the Broadway community art – his drawing reinterpreted.
So around 1500 people participated and now have their art hanging at the Neville Public Museum! Thanks to all for participating!!! And, thank you, Brent, for allowing us to use your wonderful drawing. You can find that drawing and more of Brent’s drawings of Green Bay landmarks on notecards in the Neville Gift Shop.
Stop in and see the community art and the rest of the MuseumPLACE exhibit, the Football exhibit on the second floor, a delightful Fertile Ground: Art and Agriculture exhibit on the second floor, and our permanent On the Edge of the Inland Sea.
See you at the Farmer’s Market! And, we will see you at your Neville Public Museum!
